Inspired by a real grandma

"Letters to Grandma" is a small family business based in Minnesota. Our founder Matthew had a problem - his grandma Mary Ann didn't have a smartphone and didn't know how to use her computer - yet she always insisted on him mailing her physical photos of his kids. After years of journeying to the local Walgreens to print out photos, scrounging through drawers for stamps, and forgetting for weeks to make the drive to the post office box, he had an idea: what if families could just Text the photos, and the phone number (somehow) turned those texts into physical mail? One year later, Letters to Grandma was born!

What Our Customers Say

With hundreds of letters already delivered to homes across the country, hear from the people who love Letters to Grandma.

As a grandmother of eight very young children, Letters to Grandma warms my heart when it arrives. I see pictures and read cute stories from all of them! It brings all our children and grandchildren together as we share funny and quirky family stories. I'm so grateful to share highlights and big news and events, but even more I love to share the little milestones along the way!

Grandmother

After years of saying "keep in touch" and "see you soon," Letters to Grandma made staying connected to my family an actual reality. Reading stories and seeing pictures about my family in a nostalgic newspaper format has been very enjoyable and helps us to have better conversations and have more fun when my family gets together. Super quick and easy to use. Thank you Letters to Grandma - you absolutely "mailed" it!

Letters to Grandma has been such a great way to stay connected with my family, especially living far away in Florida while they're in Minnesota. I love that I can simply text updates and photos, and it turns into a beautiful monthly newsletter that keeps grandparents and the whole family feeling close and included.

Letters to Grandma has done something incredible. It's created a space where we all share precious little day-to-day tidbits we would otherwise miss! We already text here and there, but this does something different. Reading about my sister taking her children to the park, and then showing it to my own kids, without ANY screens, is a special family magic I didn't even know we'd been missing!

We live far from my kids' grandparents and cousins, so it's a sincere treat to share our updates and to read about other little moments from the rest of the family! My kids adore seeing pictures of their cousins and we still get to celebrate all the little moments with our family, even from afar. Letters to Grandma is tons of fun for cousins, aunts and uncles too!

Questions? We've Got Answers

Everything you need to know to get started

How does this actually work?

Your family gets a Phone Number once you sign up. During the month you and your family members can text that number any time with photos and stories about your life. At the end of the month, we group all those messages together and write a newspaper-style letter just like a news reporter would! We also send a reminder text message to everyone a few days before the letter gets written, to pop the family phone number back to the top of your text threads and invite final contributions each month.

Does everyone in the family need to pay?

Nope, just you. You pay once and everyone else joins for free - they simply text their updates and photos to a shared number. It's that easy.

How do family members send in their stories and photos?

They just text a message or snap a photo to the family number throughout the month. No apps to download, no logins, no hassle - if they can text, they can participate.

Will my grandma actually be able to read it?

Absolutely. We send a beautiful, full-color printed newsletter in the mail - designed to be easy to read with clear fonts and sensible layout. It's something she can hold, treasure, and save forever.

What if some family members never send anything?

No problem. Our system balances contributions so quieter family members still get represented, and the most important updates make the cut. Everyone feels included.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel anytime with no penalty. But we think once you see how much your loved ones cherish the printed newsletter, you'll want to keep it going.

Give them something they can hold onto.

Your parents and grandparents won't be here forever. A monthly letter in the mailbox - something real, something they can hold and reread and cherish - is one of the most loving things you can give them right now. Enjoy the newspaper-like nostalgia together.
